Alibaba Unveils New Qwen AI, Claiming Claude-Like Autonomous Capabilities

Alibaba has introduced a new version of its Qwen AI model, claiming it can perform complex tasks with a level of autonomous reasoning comparable to Anthropic's Claude. According to the company, the latest model is designed to work for extended periods with minimal human supervision, enabling it to complete multi-step assignments such as software development, research, and document analysis. Unlike traditional chatbots that respond to one prompt at a time, the new Qwen model is built for agentic AI—systems capable of planning, reasoning, and executing sequences of actions independently. Alibaba says the model can design computer chips, rewrite research papers, analyze documents, and carry out complex workflows without requiring continuous user guidance. These capabilities closely resemble the "unsupervised working" features that Anthropic has promoted for its Claude models.
