Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a mainstream tool for travel planning, according to a new survey by Allianz Partners. The study found that 37% of Americans planning to travel this summer are using AI to help organize their trips, from researching destinations and finding restaurants to creating itineraries and managing travel budgets. Travelers increasingly expect fast, personalized, and mobile-first digital experiences throughout their journeys, reflecting AI's growing role in the travel industry.
The survey also found that AI is reshaping customer expectations beyond trip planning. Travelers are looking for seamless digital services, including real-time travel assistance, personalized recommendations, and easy access to support through mobile apps. Among people planning to purchase travel insurance, 64% said they value or expect 24/7 customer support and emergency assistance through an app, highlighting the demand for AI-powered convenience.
Hotels and travel companies are responding by integrating generative AI into their customer experiences. Major hospitality brands such as IHG Hotels & Resorts, Hilton, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, and Marriott International have introduced AI-powered booking assistants, digital concierges, and conversational search tools to help travelers discover properties, receive personalized recommendations, and complete bookings more efficiently. These investments aim to improve guest satisfaction while making hotel services more accessible and tailored to individual preferences.
The findings suggest that AI is evolving from a niche travel aid into an essential part of the modern travel experience. As travelers become more comfortable relying on AI for planning and support, hospitality businesses are expected to expand their use of intelligent assistants, personalized recommendations, and automated customer service. While human expertise will remain important for complex travel needs, AI is increasingly becoming the first point of contact for planning, managing, and enhancing trips.
