Creator Gerard Bisbal is demonstrating how artificial intelligence can enable a single individual to build an expansive transmedia franchise that would traditionally require a large team of writers, artists, designers, and producers. His project, NUVAGAIA, is a science-fiction universe that blends solarpunk themes with cosmic horror and spans multiple formats, including podcasts, stories, artwork, videos, a wiki, and interactive fiction. AI has allowed him to transform an ambitious concept into a functioning multimedia world largely on his own.
Rather than relying on AI to replace creativity, Bisbal uses it as a tool to accelerate research, world-building, visual design, content generation, and production workflows. Tools such as ChatGPT, DALL·E, and Gemini help him organize lore, explore ideas, create visuals, generate voices, and maintain consistency across different media formats. However, he emphasizes that the creative vision, editorial decisions, and overall direction remain firmly under human control.
A key challenge in transmedia storytelling is maintaining coherence across multiple platforms. Bisbal addresses this by creating detailed internal rules, character histories, timelines, and world-building documents that serve as the foundation of the NUVAGAIA universe. AI helps expand and manage these elements, but he personally decides what fits the world and what does not. According to him, consistency and creative judgment are far more important than simply generating impressive content.
The project illustrates a broader shift in the creative industry, where AI is increasingly empowering independent creators to produce work at a scale that was previously possible only for well-funded studios. Bisbal believes AI can significantly reduce the gap between imagination and execution, enabling individuals to develop rich, interconnected worlds without massive budgets. At the same time, he argues that success still depends on human vision, storytelling ability, and careful curation rather than the technology itself.
