Anthropic Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao is becoming one of the most influential executives in the global AI industry as the company races to compete with rivals like OpenAI and Google. A recent Moneycontrol report highlights how Rao is helping guide Anthropic through explosive growth, massive infrastructure spending, and intense competition in the race to build advanced AI systems. Since joining Anthropic in 2024 as its first CFO, Rao has played a central role in fundraising, compute strategy, and scaling operations while maintaining what insiders describe as a disciplined financial approach.
One of Rao’s biggest responsibilities is securing the enormous computing power required to train and operate frontier AI models like Claude. He has described compute infrastructure as the “lifeblood” of AI companies, explaining that firms face enormous risk if they either overinvest or fail to secure enough processing capacity. Anthropic has recently expanded partnerships with companies including Google and Broadcom to access large-scale TPU infrastructure capable of supporting future Claude models.
Rao has also attracted attention after revealing that more than 90% of Anthropic’s internal code is now generated by its own AI coding system, Claude Code. Despite this high level of automation, he says the company is hiring more employees rather than fewer because AI acts as a productivity accelerator instead of a direct replacement for workers. According to Rao, human employees are increasingly focused on strategy, oversight, and decision-making while AI systems handle execution-heavy tasks such as software engineering and operational workflows.
Anthropic’s rapid growth reflects the broader AI industry’s shift toward enterprise adoption and infrastructure competition. The company’s reported revenue run rate recently surpassed $30 billion as demand for Claude products accelerated globally, including in India, which Anthropic identifies as one of its fastest-growing markets. Analysts believe Rao’s ability to balance aggressive expansion with financial discipline could become critical as Anthropic moves closer toward a potential IPO and intensifies its battle for AI dominance against larger technology rivals.
