South Korea forms agentic AI alliance to shape ecosystem

The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT has officially launched a new Agentic AI Alliance — a public‑private partnership aimed at building a strong national ecosystem for agentic artificial intelligence. Agentic AI refers to systems that can set goals and act autonomously to complete tasks, beyond simply answering questions.

The alliance brings together government officials, industry players, academic institutions, and research bodies to coordinate the development of agentic AI technologies and ensure they are adopted safely and effectively. Initial participants include major Korean tech entities like NC AI, LG AI Research, Kakao, and Soongsil University’s AI Safety Research Center.

To cover the full lifecycle of AI development and deployment, the alliance is structured into specialized working groups. These groups will focus on industry adoption, technical standards, ecosystem building, and safety and trust, aiming to match industry demand with supply, analyze domestic and global trends, and establish reliability and safety frameworks for agentic systems.

South Korean officials emphasize that global competition in AI has shifted from purely technological innovation toward ecosystem leadership. By uniting industry, government, and academia, the alliance hopes to boost global competitiveness, accelerate real‑world agentic AI applications, and ensure these advanced systems improve daily life for citizens while addressing regulatory and ethical challenges.
