The Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to invest nearly ₹600 crore to strengthen its artificial intelligence ecosystem and position the state as a major AI hub in South Asia. The proposed investment includes approximately ₹230 crore for the UP AI Mission and around ₹370 crore for the development of India’s first “AI City” near Lucknow. The initiative reflects the state’s ambition to accelerate technological innovation and expand its presence in advanced digital industries.
According to the report, the upcoming AI City will spread across nearly 260 acres and function as a comprehensive innovation zone focused on artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and deep-tech technologies. The project is designed to include hardware infrastructure, computing facilities, foundational AI development, and AI-driven business solutions within an integrated ecosystem. Officials believe this environment will help encourage research, commercialisation, and large-scale deployment of AI technologies across multiple sectors.
The article highlights that the Uttar Pradesh government sees AI as a major driver of economic growth and administrative transformation. UP State Transformation Commission CEO Manoj Kumar Singh stated that the state aims to become a national model for AI-based governance and digital transformation. The initiative is also aligned with the broader national push toward advanced technologies under India’s expanding AI and semiconductor ecosystem.
Alongside the AI Mission, Uttar Pradesh is also focusing on electronics manufacturing and data centre expansion to support its long-term technology strategy. The state government is targeting investments worth ₹70,000 crore in electronics manufacturing and data centres through various policies and incentives. These developments are expected to strengthen digital infrastructure, generate employment opportunities, and help Uttar Pradesh emerge as a significant player in India’s rapidly growing AI and technology landscape.
