“AI devices are just ‘solutions looking for a problem,’ says Logitech CEO”

Hanneke Faber — CEO of Logitech — recently criticised the wave of new AI‑specific hardware (like wearable AI assistants, ambient‑intelligence gadgets, and other dedicated AI devices). She argued that many of these products don’t address any real user need currently. In her view, they are “solutions looking for a problem that doesn’t exist,” meaning the hype around standalone AI gadgets outpaces actual everyday utility.

Faber’s skepticism stems partly from past failures: several high‑profile AI‑hardware attempts — such as wearable AI assistants or dedicated “AI gadgets” — failed to find mass adoption because they offered marginal benefit over existing tools or were overpriced relative to their usefulness.
In contrast, Logitech prefers a different strategy: embedding AI capabilities into devices people already use — like mice, keyboards, webcams, and conferencing equipment — rather than betting on standalone “AI gadgets.”

For instance, Logitech’s “AI‑enabled” peripherals aren’t standalone smart devices but traditional hardware enhanced with AI-powered features. Examples include a productivity mouse that offers quick AI‑powered convenience, and cameras and headsets designed to improve hybrid‑work communication with AI‑driven noise reduction or smart framing.

This approach suggests Faber believes AI’s real value lies in incremental improvements to everyday tools — not in building exotic new gadgets whose purpose isn’t clear. Her remarks highlight a broader tension in tech: between ambitious visions for new AI‑driven devices and the practical value of integrating AI into existing workflows.
