The Chapman Family Foundation, in collaboration with (link unavailable) and the City of Detroit, is launching "AI in the D," a program aimed at educating senior citizens about artificial intelligence. The initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide and ensure that seniors can benefit from AI innovations.
On September 23, 2025, over 70 Detroit seniors will participate in a half-day workshop at Kemeny Recreation Center, where they will receive hands-on guidance on applying AI to daily life. The workshop will cover practical topics such as spotting and preventing online scams, managing finances, and navigating the challenges of aging using AI tools.
The program is free for Detroit seniors, including transportation, making it accessible to those who may not have the resources to participate otherwise. (link unavailable) has awarded the Chapman Family Foundation a $240,000 grant to support the program, adding to the over $10 million invested in Michigan nonprofits since 2006.
By empowering seniors with AI literacy, "AI in the D" aims to enhance their daily lives and ensure they are not excluded from AI innovations. The program promotes equity and inclusion in the AI conversation, recognizing the importance of accessible education for all age groups.
Through this initiative, the Chapman Family Foundation and its partners are working to create a more inclusive and digitally literate community in Detroit, where seniors can thrive in an AI-driven world.
