A national movement called AI Kiran has been launched to empower women in artificial intelligence (AI) in India. The initiative, co-led by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Verix, and INK Women, aims to recognize, nurture, and promote women leaders in AI.
This movement is crucial as India's AI market is projected to reach $17 billion by 2027, and women currently hold only 33% of junior-level and 19% of senior-level positions in the generative AI sector. AI Kiran provides a platform for women to access mentorship, curated learning programs, branding support, and high-impact events.
The initiative has showcased over 250 prominent women redefining India's AI landscape in education, healthcare, sustainability, and enterprise tech. A $3 million fundraising drive supports large-scale summits, academic and industry partnerships, scholarships, and programs promoting women in AI globally.
AI Kiran aims to establish an enduring ecosystem that supports women at every stage of their AI journey, promoting diversity in AI development and ensuring women shape the ethical future of AI. By empowering Indian women in AI, the movement contributes to global transformation, making India a leader in AI innovation.
