AI‑Strategic Tool to Improve Scientific Research

AI‑Strategic Tool to Improve Scientific Research

The European Commission has rolled out a new AI strategy aimed at embedding artificial‑intelligence tools directly into the research workflow. The initiative treats AI as a “strategic tool” that can accelerate discovery across every discipline, from engineering to the humanities, by handling tasks such as semantic searches, hypothesis generation, data crunching and predictive modeling .

A core focus is the development of shared infrastructures that make AI accessible to all researchers. The plan calls for high‑performance computing resources, AI factories—collaborative ecosystems where models can be trained and deployed—and open‑science data repositories. These platforms are meant to reduce bottlenecks, ensure reproducibility and keep the research process transparent .

Because cutting‑edge AI demands specialized expertise, the strategy emphasizes building multidisciplinary “hybrid” teams that blend AI specialists with domain scientists. Policy makers are also crafting incentives to attract, develop and retain such interdisciplinary talent, ensuring that human insight remains at the heart of AI‑augmented research .

Finally, the EU is positioning itself as a global leader in AI‑driven science. While the United States and China dominate certain tech markets, Europe accounts for the largest share of AI research players—13 % versus 4 % for the US and 1 % for China—thanks to a robust research base and strategic investments that aim to keep the bloc competitive on the world stage .
