AI usage is stalling at work due to a lack of education and support, according to a recent Boston Consulting Group survey of 10,635 employees at companies worldwide. While 72% of workers use AI regularly, frontline employees have hit an adoption ceiling, with only 51% using AI, down from 52% last year. The main issue is insufficient training, with just over a third of employees reporting adequate AI training, which significantly impacts their confidence in AI and the quality of AI-enabled work outputs.
Another challenge is limited access to tools, with almost 40% of employees saying their company isn't supplying the right tools. This has led to 62% of Gen Z employees bypassing corporate restrictions to use other AI tools. Furthermore, only 25% of frontline employees experience clear leadership support for AI technology, which is crucial for regular usage. To overcome these challenges, companies should focus on providing comprehensive training, ensuring access to necessary tools, and demonstrating clear leadership support for AI adoption. By addressing these gaps, organizations can unlock the full potential of AI and drive meaningful impact.
