Dario Amodei, co‑founder and CEO of Anthropic, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday, highlighting the company’s plans to deepen its presence in India. During the meeting, Amodei noted that usage of Anthropic’s Claude AI has surged five‑fold since June, positioning India as the second‑largest market for the technology after the United States .
The conversation focused on deploying AI across critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, which together serve over a billion people. Amodei emphasized that India’s scale of technical talent and the government’s commitment to responsible AI make the country “essential in shaping the future of AI” .
Anthropic announced it will open its first Indian office in Bengaluru in early 2026, its second location in the Asia‑Pacific region after Tokyo. The new hub will enable hiring local talent, partnering with Indian businesses, nonprofits, and startups, and expanding Claude’s support for major Indic languages—including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu .
