US President Donald Trump recently visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and announced deals worth over $200 billion, including a significant agreement to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) between the two nations. The US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership framework aims to accelerate AI development and collaboration, solidifying the UAE's position as a global leader in AI.
During Trump's visit, the UAE and US agreed to expand access to advanced AI chips, previously restricted due to concerns about potential diversion to China. The UAE will import 500,000 of Nvidia's most advanced AI chips annually, starting this year, to support its data center construction and AI model development. In return, the UAE has committed to investing in, building, or financing US data centers that are at least as large and powerful as those in the UAE.
The partnership also includes strong protections to prevent the diversion of US-origin technology. This development is expected to drive innovation and growth in the AI sector, further strengthening the US-UAE relationship. If all proposed chip deals in Gulf states come together, the region could become a third power center in global AI competition after the US and China.
