Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser believes artificial intelligence (AI) will reshape, not replace, India's IT sector. In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18, Fraser highlighted India's highly skilled, hardworking and creative workforce as its biggest strength, ensuring the country remains a key player in the global technology landscape.
Fraser emphasized that AI will create new jobs and industries, and Indian IT professionals will be at the forefront of this transformation. Citigroup plans to allocate more global roles to India due to its strong talent pool, with Fraser expressing confidence in India's growth prospects.
India is expected to remain the world's fastest-growing economy, driven by its domestic market, government initiatives and investments in infrastructure and digitization. To stay relevant, Indian IT professionals will need to develop skills that complement AI, such as critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.
Fraser's comments come as Citigroup continues to expand its presence in India, with a focus on institutional clients and individuals with cross-border needs. The bank has also invested in developing its global capability centers in India, which have evolved from back-office support to critical capabilities in data and AI.
