Grammarly has launched a significant design overhaul, introducing multiple AI features to enhance its document-based interface. The new interface is built on the back of Coda, a productivity startup that Grammarly acquired last year. The design adopts a block-first approach, allowing users to insert tables, columns, separators, lists, and headers, as well as add rich text blocks to highlight information, add tips, or alerts.
The AI assistant is now hosted in a sidebar, where it can summarize text, answer questions, and provide writing suggestions. Grammarly has also introduced several new features, including Reader Reactions, which lets users pick a reader persona and get feedback on their writing based on that persona. The Grader feature provides feedback based on instructor guidelines and publicly available course material, while Citation Finder helps find and generate citations from public materials.
Additionally, Grammarly's Paraphraser can modify text tone according to user preferences, and its Plagiarism Detection feature can detect plagiarism or AI-generated content. Grammarly claims its agent is the most accurate in the market, and the company aims to teach students how to use AI and prepare them for the workforce.
Grammarly's recent $1 billion raise from General Catalyst will likely fuel further innovation and expansion. The company's acquisition of email client Superhuman also suggests plans to integrate more AI agents into its products. With its new design overhaul and AI features, Grammarly is poised to continue its growth and innovation in the AI-powered writing assistance space.
