Health Startup Founded by Canadians Expands AI-Powered Dementia Treatment, Raises More Funding

Moneta Health, a digital health startup founded by two Canadians, is expanding its AI-powered dementia treatment across more US states after securing new funding from investors, including an arm of the American Medical Association. The startup's innovative approach uses artificial intelligence to provide personalized cognitive rehabilitation therapy, aiming to improve cognitive function and daily life activities for individuals with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.

Moneta Health's program starts with a 60-minute brain health evaluation with a clinician to identify strengths, goals, and areas for growth. Patients then receive automated therapy calls and unlimited access to a library of recorded activities available 24/7 via phone. The program also includes weekly live check-in calls and clinician reviews of each recorded session to monitor progress and provide feedback.

The startup's AI-powered approach is designed to be accessible, using traditional phone calls to deliver therapy, making it possible for patients to participate without needing smartphones or internet access. This approach addresses the issue of "neurology deserts," where patients lack access to high-quality care. Moneta Health's early results show statistically significant increases in patients' average quality of life score and other cognitive measures.

By leveraging AI technology, Moneta Health aims to revolutionize dementia care, providing patients with greater independence and improving their overall well-being. The startup's founders, Paul Campbell and Jen Flexman, PhD, are passionate about dementia care, with Campbell's personal experience with his mother's diagnosis driving their mission to make a difference.
