Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that artificial intelligence should support—not replace—human judgment in public administration during the 29th National e-Governance Conference in Jaipur. Stressing the importance of responsible AI adoption, he said that while AI is becoming an essential tool for governance, human intelligence, ethics, and accountability must remain at the center of decision-making. He described AI as a means to enhance efficiency and service delivery rather than a substitute for human oversight.
A key outcome of the conference was the adoption of the Jaipur Declaration, which outlines a roadmap for the next phase of digital governance in India. The declaration calls for greater use of emerging technologies—including AI, data analytics, cloud computing, and digital public infrastructure—to deliver citizen-centric, transparent, secure, and inclusive public services. It also emphasizes responsible AI governance, cybersecurity, data protection, and capacity building for government officials.
During the conference, Dr. Singh also presented the National Awards for e-Governance 2026, recognizing 17 outstanding initiatives from central ministries, state governments, district administrations, Gram Panchayats, and academic institutions for innovation in digital governance. He highlighted that AI and digital technologies will play a crucial role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, provided they are implemented with transparency, inclusivity, and public trust.
The conference reaffirmed India's commitment to combining technological innovation with good governance. By placing human judgment at the heart of AI-enabled public services and adopting the Jaipur Declaration, the government aims to accelerate digital transformation while ensuring that technology remains ethical, accountable, and focused on improving citizens' lives.
