IBM has teamed up with the United States Tennis Association to bring AI-powered digital experiences to the 2025 US Open. The centerpiece of this collaboration is "Match Chat," an interactive AI assistant built on IBM watsonx Orchestrate technologies. This tool provides real-time answers to fan questions during and after all 254 singles matches, covering topics such as player statistics, head-to-head records, match insights, and even player name pronunciations.
The AI assistant is designed to deliver millions of tennis fans worldwide more customized and nonstop coverage throughout the two-week Grand Slam. Fans can engage with Match Chat by selecting pre-written prompts or typing their own questions. Additionally, an enhanced version of IBM SlamTracker offers live Likelihood to Win projections, updating in near real-time with projected win percentages that can change throughout each match based on AI-powered analysis of player statistics, expert opinion, and match momentum.
Another feature, "Key Points," creates three-bullet summaries of articles, tournament data, and match analysis on the US Open app and website. By clicking a button at the top of the article page, fans receive a "TL;DR" recap of all the action they're looking to follow. According to a new global survey from Morning Consult commissioned by IBM, 86% of tennis fans surveyed worldwide see value in AI-powered features, with real-time insights and personalized highlights central to how they engage with sports.
The 2025 US Open runs from August 18 to September 7, 2025, and these AI-powered features are available on (link unavailable) and the US Open mobile app. The partnership between IBM and the USTA demonstrates IBM's AI technology leadership in sports, highlighting the growing demand for dynamic digital content and AI-driven fan experiences.
