Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India is positioned at the forefront of the global artificial intelligence transformation as the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and its accompanying Expo opened in New Delhi. Speaking ahead of his inauguration of the event at Bharat Mandapam, Modi said the nation’s progress in AI reflects both ambition and responsibility, and highlighted that AI is already reshaping key sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, governance and enterprise.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the prime minister welcomed world leaders, industry captains, innovators, and researchers from around the globe to the summit, which he said embodies the theme “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” — welfare for all, happiness for all. Modi expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes will help shape a future that is progressive, innovative and opportunity-driven.
Modi pointed to India’s extensive digital public infrastructure, a vibrant startup ecosystem and growing research capabilities as reasons why the country is ready not just to participate in the AI revolution but to lead key aspects of it. He also noted that recent tax incentives and budget measures are designed to accelerate investment in AI infrastructure and position India as a competitive global destination for data and technology growth.
In his remarks, the prime minister extended an invitation for global collaboration, emphasizing that India is prepared to host the world’s data and help drive the next wave of technological progress. Modi thanked India’s 1.4 billion citizens for contributing to the country’s AI journey and reiterated that hosting the summit in the Global South showcases India’s ambition to influence global AI dialogue and governance.
