The Maharashtra Cabinet has given its nod to the Maharashtra Agriculture-Artificial Intelligence (MahaAgri-AI) Policy 2025-2029, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing the state's agricultural sector through the integration of emerging technologies. This policy will harness the power of artificial intelligence, generative AI, drones, computer vision, robotics, and predictive analytics to drive innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
The MahaAgri-AI Policy is designed to support key digital agriculture initiatives, including AgriStack, Maha-Agritech, Mahavedh, CropSAPP, Agmarknet, Digital Farming Schools, and Maha-DBT. One of the notable initiatives under this policy is the setup of automatic weather stations at the gram panchayat level to provide accurate, localized weather information across the state through the Mahavedh project under the WINDS initiative.
The policy also aims to create an AI and agritech hub, enhancing farmer-centric usage of technology and supporting start-ups, private companies, and research institutions. By integrating AI and emerging technologies, the policy promotes sustainable and scalable solutions in agriculture.
To implement the policy, Rs 500 crore has been allocated for the first three years. Additionally, a 29-hectare land allotment in Nashik district has been approved for a tribal industrial cluster, which will promote entrepreneurship and economic development.
The MahaAgri-AI Policy is expected to have a transformative impact on Maharashtra's agricultural sector, making it more efficient, productive, and sustainable. By leveraging technology and innovation, the policy aims to improve the lives of farmers and contribute to the state's economic growth.
