Managers are increasingly relying on AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini to make critical decisions about employee promotions, raises, layoffs, and terminations. According to a recent survey by Resume Builder, 65% of managers use AI at work, with 94% of that group relying on it for employee-related decisions.
The survey found that 78% of managers use AI to determine raises, 77% for promotions, 66% for layoffs, and 64% for terminations. Perhaps most concerning is that 20% of managers allow AI to make final decisions without human input, raising questions about accountability and fairness.
Many managers lack formal training in AI ethics, which can lead to poor decision-making and potential biases in AI-driven outcomes. The lack of human oversight and insufficient training can result in unfair or legally questionable decisions.
The most popular AI tools used by managers for employee-related decisions are ChatGPT, used by 53% of managers, followed by Microsoft's Copilot at 29%, and Google's Gemini at 16%. As AI continues to play a larger role in workplace decisions, it's essential for organizations to establish clear guidelines and oversight to ensure fairness and transparency.
