Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is reportedly in talks to invest a staggering $200 billion in a new data center project focused on artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. This massive investment is part of Meta's larger strategy to expand its AI infrastructure, with plans to spend up to $65 billion this year alone.
The proposed data center campus is expected to be built in either Louisiana, Wyoming, or Texas, with senior Meta executives already visiting potential sites. However, a Meta spokesperson has denied the report, stating that the company's data center plans and spending have already been shared.
This investment is not an isolated move, as other tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, and Google are also pouring billions of dollars into data center expansions to meet growing AI demands. Microsoft plans to invest around $80 billion in 2025, while Amazon aims to spend over $100 billion in 2025. Apple is also constructing a factory in Houston, Texas, to manufacture AI servers for its data centers.
