The report suggests that this shift will lead to the creation of new job roles, such as agent specialists, AI trainers, and data analysts. In fact, 78% of leaders plan to hire for new AI-specific roles. However, there are also concerns about job displacement, with 33% of leaders considering headcount reductions due to AI adoption.
One of the key challenges highlighted in the report is the skills gap between leaders and employees. While 67% of leaders report being familiar with AI agents, only 40% of employees claim the same level of familiarity. To bridge this gap, organizations will need to invest in training and support to help workers develop the skills required to collaborate effectively with AI agents.
Microsoft's report introduces the concept of the "Frontier Firm," a workplace model where human-AI teams form around goals rather than traditional roles or departments. These firms are expected to scale rapidly, operate with agility, and generate value faster. As AI continues to transform the workplace, it's clear that organizations will need to adapt and evolve to stay ahead of the curve.
