OpenAI is cracking down on scammers using its ChatGPT platform for malicious activities. The company has removed dozens of accounts suspected of using ChatGPT for unauthorized purposes, such as generating content for publication, debugging code, and even creating malware.
Some of the cases involved scammers using ChatGPT to generate Spanish-language articles criticizing the US, which were then published in Latin American media. Another case involved a North Korean fake IT jobs scheme, where scammers used ChatGPT to generate resumes and job profiles for non-existent job applicants.
OpenAI has also banned accounts involved in romance-baiting scams, Iranian and Ghanian influence operations, and a task scam believed to have been based in Cambodia. The company has emphasized that its policies strictly prohibit using ChatGPT for fraud or scams, and it's working to prevent abuse.
This crackdown comes as OpenAI continues to gain popularity, with over 400 million weekly active users. The company is taking steps to ensure its platform is not used for malicious activities, and it's collaborating with other companies and authorities to share information and best practices.
