Google’s latest Our Life with AI survey reveals a major shift in how people use artificial intelligence. For the first time, the majority of users around the world report that their main reason for using AI isn’t entertainment — it’s learning and understanding new things. This includes students using AI to help with homework and complex subjects, teachers using it to save time and improve instruction, and parents using it to support family learning and even explore career options.
Across 21 countries and more than 21,000 participants, the survey shows that students, teachers, and parents overwhelmingly believe AI is having a positive impact on education. Large shares report that AI helps them learn more effectively, understand difficult topics, and manage daily tasks. Educators in particular say AI frees up significant time — during one pilot program, teachers reported saving an average of about ten hours per week thanks to AI tools.
Google highlights that as AI use in education grows, so does the importance of building responsible tools and safeguards. There’s a shared expectation from the public that tech companies and governments should work together to ensure AI benefits everyone and doesn’t deepen existing inequalities. Google says its goal is to design AI that improves learning outcomes for everyone and helps teachers focus on the human elements of teaching.
The blog also reflects Google’s commitment to embedding AI thoughtfully into its education products so that learners and educators can harness AI’s benefits while maintaining emotional connection and human judgment at the heart of education.
