Rajasthan is set to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for mineral exploration, marking a significant step towards modernizing its mining sector. A pilot project is currently underway in Bhilwara, Bharatpur, and select areas of Chittorgarh to identify potential zones of critical and strategic minerals using AI.
The Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust (RSMET) is collaborating with a private exploration agency approved by the Central Government to implement this initiative. The AI-driven exploration will analyze data from satellite imagery, ground penetration radar, and historical geological surveys to pinpoint high-potential zones for mineral exploration.
Once these zones are identified, drilling and chemical analysis of core samples will follow, enabling more accurate and efficient mineral detection. This approach is expected to save time, cost, and labor while increasing the scientific accuracy of mineral detection.
The project is being led by the Hyderabad-based NPEA Critical Mineral Tracker, a private firm working under the Central Government. Initial reports on the initiative are expected within 45 days.
Rajasthan has vast limestone reserves and untapped potential for copper, base metals, and iron ore. Both state and central governments are prioritizing these critical minerals, essential for national development and technological growth. With 82 types of minerals found in the state, 57 of which are currently being mined, this initiative could unlock new opportunities for mineral exploration and extraction.
This innovative approach is expected to boost Rajasthan's mining industry, which has already seen significant growth in mineral auctions and revenue. By leveraging AI and ML, the state aims to make its mineral exploration more efficient, accurate, and sustainable.
