Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that while artificial intelligence will play an increasingly important role in future warfare, wars will ultimately be won by national resolve, well-trained soldiers, and strong conventional military capabilities. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of INS Mahendragiri in Visakhapatnam, Singh stressed that emerging technologies should complement—not replace—traditional military strength. He said AI, autonomous systems, and other advanced technologies are reshaping warfare, but they cannot substitute for human courage, leadership, and operational readiness.
Singh emphasized that new technologies and conventional platforms are complementary rather than competing approaches. According to him, advanced AI systems, drones, and digital capabilities enhance military effectiveness, but they remain incomplete without capable soldiers, naval vessels, aircraft, and other conventional assets. He noted that the fundamental principles of warfare have not changed, even as technological innovation continues to transform how conflicts are fought.
The Defence Minister also highlighted India's growing defence manufacturing capabilities, describing Andhra Pradesh as an emerging hub for the country's defence and aerospace industries. Referring to the induction of INS Mahendragiri, the sixth Project 17A Nilgiri-class stealth frigate and the final ship in the series built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), he said the vessel reflects India's progress toward defence self-reliance and modern naval capability. He expressed confidence that Indian shipyards would continue producing advanced warships to strengthen maritime security.
Singh concluded that the armed forces must prepare for an era in which AI, cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, and conventional military power operate together. He urged soldiers to continuously upgrade their skills, master emerging technologies, and remain physically and mentally prepared for future conflicts. In his view, technological superiority alone cannot secure victory—success will continue to depend on disciplined personnel, strong institutions, and national determination working alongside advanced AI-enabled defence systems.
