Most Americans aren't getting their news from AI chatbots like ChatGPT, with 75% saying they never get news this way. About one-in-ten U.S. adults say they get news often or sometimes from AI chatbots, while 16% do so rarely. Fewer than 1% of Americans prefer getting news from chatbots over other sources.
Adults under 50 are slightly more likely than older Americans to get news from AI chatbots, but there's a larger age gap when it comes to overall chatbot use. Younger adults are also more likely to encounter inaccurate news on chatbots, with 59% of 18- to 29-year-olds saying this happens at least sometimes.
Among those who use chatbots for news, about half say they at least sometimes come across news that they think is inaccurate. A third of users find it difficult to determine what's true and what's not in news from AI chatbots, while 42% aren't sure about their ability to discern accuracy.
