Servier in the Age of AI

Servier is accelerating its digital transformation by integrating artificial intelligence across its research and operations. The company sees AI as a key tool for advancing healthcare innovation, improving efficiency, and providing better services to patients and healthcare professionals. According to Servier’s leadership, AI is not just a technological trend but a strategic driver that can help address major challenges in medicine and pharmaceutical development.

A major focus of Servier’s AI strategy is research and development (R&D). Around half of the company’s data and AI resources are dedicated to accelerating drug discovery and therapeutic innovation. By analyzing massive scientific datasets—such as genomic, proteomic, and chemical data—AI systems can help researchers identify promising drug candidates and biological targets more quickly. The company hopes these technologies could shorten the development timeline for new medicines by two to four years, compared with the typical 10–15-year process.

AI is also helping improve the success rate of drug development. Machine-learning models can perform virtual tests to predict how potential medicines behave in the body, including how they are absorbed, metabolized, or whether they may cause toxicity. By filtering out unsuitable compounds earlier in the process, researchers can focus resources on drug candidates that have a stronger chance of reaching patients. This approach helps reduce the high failure rate that often occurs during clinical trials.

To accelerate innovation further, Servier has formed several strategic partnerships with technology companies and research organizations. Collaborations with firms such as Insilico Medicine, Iktos, Owkin, Aitia, and Google Cloud aim to use AI for drug discovery, precision medicine, and digital research platforms. Through these partnerships, Servier plans to expand the use of AI across its entire value chain—from laboratory research to clinical development and patient care.
