Silicon Valley veterans, including Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI President Greg Brockman, are investing over $100 million in a network of political-action committees (PACs) to influence the upcoming midterm elections. The new pro-AI super-PAC network, dubbed "Leading the Future," aims to use campaign donations and digital ads to advocate for favorable AI regulation and oppose candidates that might stifle the industry.
The AI industry is fighting against a "patchwork of regulations" that could slow down innovation and put the US at risk of losing the AI race to countries like China. This isn't the industry's first attempt to shape regulations; earlier this year, they pushed for a 10-year moratorium on states' rights to create their own AI regulations, which was ultimately struck down.
"Leading the Future" is modeled after the pro-crypto super-PAC network Fairshake, which helped secure a victory for Donald Trump. The group will generally align with the policies of White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks. By supporting favorable regulations and opposing strict ones, the industry hopes to maintain its competitive edge globally.
