South Korea is exploring a potential partnership with the U.S. artificial intelligence company Anthropic as part of its strategy to strengthen its national AI ecosystem. Government officials have reportedly begun early discussions with the company about collaboration in AI development, research, and enterprise applications. The move reflects Seoul’s ambition to position itself among the world’s leading hubs for artificial intelligence innovation.
The discussions reportedly began after South Korea’s science minister met with Dario Amodei during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. During the meeting, the two sides talked about possible cooperation in areas such as AI infrastructure, enterprise software development, and the evolving software-as-a-service (SaaS) market. Officials also discussed Anthropic’s plan to establish a presence in South Korea to support local partnerships.
Anthropic has already announced plans to open a Seoul office in 2026, expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s AI assistant, Claude, has seen rapid adoption among Korean developers and businesses, making the country one of its fastest-growing markets. Local enterprises are increasingly using the technology for tasks such as software development, customer service automation, and enterprise analytics.
The potential partnership also reflects South Korea’s broader “two-track” AI strategy. The government is simultaneously building its own domestic AI capabilities while collaborating with global leaders in the field. By partnering with companies like Anthropic and other international AI developers, Seoul hopes to accelerate innovation, attract investment, and strengthen its competitiveness in the global AI race.
