Leaders of the Organization of Turkic States are set to gather in Kazakhstan’s city of Turkistan on May 15 for a major summit centered on artificial intelligence and digital development. The meeting, hosted under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development,” is expected to become one of the most significant regional gatherings of Turkic nations in 2026.
According to reports, member and observer countries will discuss how AI and digital technologies can strengthen economic cooperation, modernize public services, and improve regional connectivity. Leaders are also expected to explore joint digital initiatives and possible collaboration on shared Turkic AI platforms as the region increases investment in technology-driven growth.
The summit reflects the Organization of Turkic States’ broader shift toward deeper cooperation in areas beyond traditional political and cultural ties. In recent years, the bloc has expanded discussions into transport, energy, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and innovation. Kazakhstan has emerged as a regional leader in AI development, recently launching initiatives focused on AI education, digital transformation, and technology workforce expansion.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to attend the summit and hold bilateral talks with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Officials say the gathering could help shape a common regional AI strategy while strengthening economic and technological integration among Turkic nations in the coming years.
