URI Researchers Working on AI-Powered Underwater Exploration System

Researchers at the University of Rhode Island (URI) are developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered underwater exploration system. The system, designed to map and explore the ocean floor, uses AI to analyze data from various sensors and cameras.

The project, led by URI's Dr. Christopher Baxter, aims to create a more efficient and effective way to explore the ocean. The system will be able to detect and identify underwater features, such as shipwrecks, and provide detailed maps of the seafloor.

The AI-powered system will also be able to adapt to changing underwater conditions, such as currents and visibility, to optimize its exploration. The researchers hope that this technology will aid in the discovery of new marine species, improve our understanding of ocean ecosystems, and support the development of more effective marine conservation strategies.
