The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) is launching new Artificial Intelligence (AI) majors, starting fall 2025. This move aims to prepare students for a rapidly changing workforce increasingly reliant on AI tools. The university will offer both a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in AI, providing students with a comprehensive education in this cutting-edge field.
The AI program will include a certificate, minor, non-comprehensive, and comprehensive major. The comprehensive major is geared towards STEM students, requiring more math and computer science courses. On the other hand, the "AI liberal arts" major is a 36-credit program that requires a minor and is more accessible to students from various disciplines.
UWEC's AI program focuses on making AI algorithms more transparent and explainable, ensuring students understand the human intentions behind the technology. The curriculum also emphasizes ethical considerations, such as the impact of AI on the workforce and human individuals.
By introducing these AI majors, UWEC is positioning itself at the forefront of AI education, providing students with the skills and expertise needed to succeed in this rapidly evolving field.
