Women's Enrollment in AI and ML Programs Sees Fourfold Rise, Report Finds

Women's enrollment in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) programs has seen a significant surge, rising fourfold from 5% in 2024 to 20% in 2025. This growth is part of a larger trend where women's participation in technical education has increased to 17% in 2025 from 4% in 2022. The demand for AI programs has skyrocketed by 500% in the past two years, with women emerging as key contributors to this growth.

One in every five students in AI and ML Master's programs is now a woman, compared to only one in twenty last year. Women also make up nearly a quarter of MCA students in Cybersecurity and 15% of doctoral candidates in Generative AI. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh account for 70% of women's enrollments in deep-tech programs, with Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns driving growth.

The growth in women's enrollment can be attributed to changing cultural attitudes, online learning models, and industry role models. Flexible online learning models with EMI options starting at ₹4,999 have made high-quality courses more accessible, contributing to this growth. The rising visibility of women leaders in CXO and senior tech roles is also inspiring and motivating the next generation.

According to Rohit Gupta, COO at College Vidya, "These numbers capture how cultural attitudes, online learning models, and industry role models are opening pathways for women in areas that will define India's technological future." This trend is expected to continue, with women playing an increasingly important role in shaping India's tech industry.
