China’s Guangdong province, the country’s largest regional economy and a global manufacturing hub, is pushing for large-scale adoption of artificial intelligence to modernize its industries. Provincial leaders say AI will become central to economic growth, helping reshape both traditional manufacturing sectors and emerging technology industries. The strategy aligns with China’s broader “AI-plus” initiative, which aims to integrate AI across the entire economy.
Guangdong has one of the world’s most extensive manufacturing networks, producing electronics, home appliances, electric vehicles, and industrial equipment. By embedding AI-driven automation, smart robotics, and advanced data analytics into factories and supply chains, the government hopes to improve productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness in global markets.
To support this transformation, the province plans to build large computing clusters, strengthen AI infrastructure, and encourage commercialization of AI technologies. Tech hubs such as Shenzhen—home to companies like Huawei, Tencent, and DJI—are expected to play a key role, with strategic industries including AI, semiconductors, robotics, and drones showing strong growth.
Officials believe that expanding AI adoption will help Guangdong maintain its position at the center of global supply chains while reducing reliance on foreign technology. By investing in advanced manufacturing and domestic technology ecosystems, the province aims to lead China’s transition toward an AI-driven, high-tech industrial economy.
