The government has begun steps to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Mission aimed at accelerating the adoption of AI and emerging technologies in governance and public services. The initiative is intended to create a structured institutional framework that enables government departments to develop and deploy AI-based solutions for improving administrative efficiency and citizen service delivery.
The proposal was discussed in a meeting chaired by senior officials from the Information Technology Department, where experts and administrators reviewed the growing importance of AI in modern governance. Officials highlighted that AI technologies can analyze vast amounts of government data, enabling data-driven decision-making, improved policy planning, and more efficient operations across departments.
Under the proposed mission, several AI applications could be developed for public administration. These may include intelligent chatbots for citizen services, automated grievance-redressal systems, multilingual communication platforms, predictive analytics tools, and AI-enabled cybersecurity mechanisms. Such systems could help streamline government processes and improve accessibility of services for citizens.
The Artificial Intelligence Mission is expected to operate as a mission-mode initiative under the Information Technology Department, supported by a governance structure that includes a Mission Steering Committee and a technical implementation wing. The program will also encourage collaboration with research institutions, startups, and technology partners to drive innovation and expand the use of AI across government sectors.
