A recent study reported on EurekAlert reveals that artificial intelligence is becoming an important source of health information for many people. The findings show that a large number of individuals now encounter AI-generated answers—such as summaries on search engines—when looking up health-related topics online. In fact, about 65% of users say they have seen AI-generated responses while searching for medical information.
The study also highlights that many users find these AI-generated responses helpful. Around 31% say AI often or always gives them the answers they need, while another 45% say it is sometimes useful. This indicates that AI is increasingly being seen as a quick and convenient tool for understanding symptoms, treatments, and general health concerns.
In terms of trust, the results are fairly positive but not without caution. Nearly 63% of users consider AI-generated health information to be reliable, though most rate it as only “somewhat reliable” rather than completely trustworthy. At the same time, about a quarter of users believe the information is generally unreliable, showing that skepticism still exists.
Overall, the study suggests that while AI is becoming a widely used and helpful source of health information, people do not rely on it entirely. Many users continue to check other sources or consult professionals, indicating that AI is viewed as a support tool rather than a replacement for doctors or verified medical advice.
