Penn Explores Governance of Artificial Intelligence

The University of Pennsylvania's Perry World House recently hosted a workshop to explore the governance of artificial intelligence (AI). The event brought together researchers from across the university to discuss key issues surrounding AI governance, including AI oversight, policy, social impacts and teaching.

The need for greater AI literacy inside and outside government was emphasized, highlighting the importance of understanding AI's potential risks and benefits. The regulatory environment for AI is still evolving, with government efforts often trailing behind technological advancements.

The workshop explored practical applications of AI, including its potential to enhance human well-being and address societal challenges. Speakers included Kevin Werbach, Liem Sioe Liong/First Pacific Company professor at the Wharton School, and Michael Horowitz, faculty director of Perry World House.

The event was co-sponsored by the Wharton AI & Analytics Initiative, the Wharton Accountable AI Lab and the School of Engineering & Applied Science. The University of Pennsylvania is continuing to explore AI governance through various events, including the AI Month initiative, which features discussions, workshops and panels with leading experts in the field.
